Our ProgramsIt Starts With A Place To Call Home

Macomb County Habitat for Humanity partners with people in our community to help them build or improve a place they can call home. With the support of community partners, donors, and volunteers, Macomb Habitat constructs new homes and renovates existing homes alongside our Partner Families.

Every day, families partner with Macomb Habitat to build homes and, as a result, better lives. Over the course of their journey, each family invests hard work and dedication on their path to homeownership. From attending homeowner courses to completing sweat equity hours, each step empowers future homeowners and helps foster the skills they will need to succeed.

Program Application

Application Process

While every homeowner’s journey will be slightly different, the homebuying process with Macomb Habitat looks like this:

Step 1: Apply

Obtain our application by mail or stop by our office in Warren to pick-up an application packet. If you need assistance, please schedule a meeting with a Family Services team member.

Step 2: Review

Turn in your completed application and all accompanying documents. Your information will be carefully reviewed by a member of our team.

Step 3: Approval

Once your application is approved, you are officially on your way to becoming a homeowner!

All prospective homeowners will enroll in our Partner Family Homebuyer Education Courses. From budgeting to small home repairs, landscaping to retirement planning, each course is aimed to help homeowners achieve success in their new homes.

Step 4: Participate

In addition to participating in our homebuyer education courses, each family who partners with Macomb Habitat completes 250 sweat equity hours before move-in day. Any adult member of the immediate or extended family can contribute to this total. Hours can be accrued in a variety of ways, including working on a Habitat build site, helping out in one of our ReStores, or volunteering at Macomb Habitat’s events.

Step 5: Closing

Complete the paperwork for your mortgage, turn in your final documentation, pay your $1,000 down payment, and get the keys to your new home!

Step 6: Move in

It’s ribbon cutting day! Once all of the forms are signed and all of the construction is complete, it’s time to celebrate! Friends and family, as well as Macomb Habitat staff and volunteers will come together to dedicate your new home. This will be the first of many joyous occasions to be celebrated in your new chapter.

Help build homes and hope with Habitat!
