Here at Macomb County Habitat for Humanity we strive to build, repair, educate and revitalize. It is our goal to improve financial literacy by overseeing mortgages, as well as aiding in retail operation and homeowner development.

History and Mission

History of Habitat for Humanity International

HFHI was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. HFHI operates in over 1500 US locations and in 300 locations worldwide. This includes all 50 states in the U.S.A.

History of Macomb County Habitat for Humanity

Macomb County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1993. Since then, we have provided 155 families a home in 12 Macomb County communities.

Macomb County Milestones

  • 1993 – Affiliate founded
  •  1995 – First house was built in Mt. Clemens
  •  1996 – First House built in Clinton Township
  •  1998 – First house built in Roseville
  •  1998 – First Women Build home completed
  •  2001 – First house built in Warren
  •  2005 – Vision 2020 begins in Macomb County, Five homes built in Colchester neighborhood
  •  2005 – Macomb County ReStore is opened
  •  2006 – Macomb County partnered with Oakland and Wayne Counties for the SuperBuild, which was a lead-up event to Super Bowl XL, 40 wall sets were constructed and sent to three Texas affiliates to be built permanently for hurricane evacuees
  •  2009 – First rehab house completed in Roseville
  •  2009 – 50th Macomb County Habitat house built
  •  2009 – First house built in Sterling Heights
  •  2010 – First LEED Certified house built in Sterling Heights, which has received a LEED Certified Platinum rating
  • 2010 – ReStore and offices moves to Mt. Clemens
  • 2014 – First home built in St. Clair Shores, a home moved and expanded
  • 2014 – Women Build completes their 14th home for Macomb Habitat
  • 2014 – The 21st home sponsored by Thrivent Financial in our county completed
  • 2015 – The second ReStore opens in Warren
  • 2016 – Brush with Kindness program expanded for exterior repairs of owner occupied homes, for low-income, senior, disabled and veteran families
  • 2016 – The Macomb County Habitat Administrative offices move to the Baker College of Clinton Township
  • 2017 – The ReStore formerly located on Groesbeck moves to Shelby Township
  • 2017 – Macomb County Habitat has provided 186 adults and 316 children a home since 1993, in 145 locations in 12 Macomb County communities
